What is the Emerald Coast Theatre Company (ECTC)?

ECTC is a leading producer of high quality professional theater serving the Destin and Emerald Coast communities. It serves the cultural arts needs of the adult community and supplements the children’s performing arts education in area schools. ECTC is a non-profit 501(c)3 that is overseen by a board of directors. It pays its artistic and operational staff. ECTC is a member of the national professional theatre organization of Theater Communications Group and a member of the Southeastern Theatre Conference.

Where is the theater?

ECTC is located at 560 Grand Boulevard, Suite 200 in Miramar Beach. The entrance is on the south side of the building facing Highway 98. It is above the Williams Sonoma Store and across from Cantina Laredo. There are stairs and an elevator to access the theatre on the second floor.

How was ECTC established?

It was founded by Nathanael and Anna Fisher in October of 2012. Nathanael was born in Tampa and grew up on the Suncoast. He was working as Spiderman at Universal Studios Islands of Adventure in 2002 when he met Anna. Anna is a Destin native born and raised, and a lot of her family lives in the area. After living in Orlando for a few years and then attending graduate school in Virginia Beach (Anna has a Masters in Theatre Studies, Nathanael has a Master of Fine Arts in Acting), Anna and Nathanael moved back to Santa Rosa Beach in 2012 with their three daughters. They wanted to get involved in the arts scene and ended up getting connected with Marcia Hull at the Mattie Kelly Arts Foundation and Demetrius Fuller with Sinfonia. After consulting with both of them and investigating the availability of theatre arts here on the Emerald Coast, it became clear that at that time in Okaloosa and Walton Counties there were no opportunities for children in elementary school and only one opportunity in Okaloosa County for middle schoolers to get involved in theatre. To fill the void, Nathanael and Anna founded ECTC in October of 2012. With the support of the Mattie Kelly Arts Foundation in January of 2013, ECTC launched an afterschool class at Destin Elementary that had 10 registrants. This past year, ECTC had over 470 children engaged in their educational programs. The Educational programs were the foundation and from there, ECTC launched the Theatre for Young Audiences program and the Professional Theatre programs.

What is the theatre season?

The professional season starts at the end of September and goes to the middle of May with six Professional and three Theatre for Young Audiences or Theatre for the Very young productions. Educational Children’s theater production classes start in August and January with final productions in November and April. ECTC also has other special events: the StoryTeller series, Cabaret on the BLVD, Comedy Nights, and various other one night only events.
